Kindergarten
Program
Kindergarten at St. Dominic School offers a full-day program, with students attending class from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on most Fridays. This full-day program allows students and teachers the additional time necessary to enrich and expand on our core curriculum. The class accommodates 38 students with one credentialed teacher, one full-time teacher assistant, and one part-time teacher assistant. During the second trimester, parents are invited to be a part of the Workshop (activity-oriented learning centers) program in the classroom.
Curriculum
The curriculum at St. Dominic School closely adheres to the standards for the State of California and the Diocese of Sacramento. Students in Kindergarten receive daily instruction in the following core subjects:
- Religion
- Language Arts (Reading, Phonics, Storytelling, Writing)
- Math
- Social Studies
- Science
Specialized teachers offer weekly enrichment opportunities in:
- Spanish
- Music
- Technology
- Physical Education
During the academic year, the Kindergarten program also takes time to participate in cultural celebrations from a variety of inspirations, including Chinese New Year, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Mardi Gras, and Cinco de Mayo, to name a few. They also have a special Mother’s Day Tea, which is remembered by all as an SDS tradition.
Faith Families
To encourage our students to get to know each other better, we have created a program called Faith Families. Students are grouped into a “family” headed by an eighth grader and consisting of eight other students, one from each grade. Kindergartners become the newest members of school “Faith Families” each September. These “families” will meet each month on a designated day to take part in activities that focus on character education traits.
Buddies
In addition to Faith Families, each student in Kindergarten is mentored by their eighth grade “buddy,” who is their Faith Family leader. They attend weekly Mass together and participate in different fun activities during the academic year, including reading together, finger painting, decorating cookies for Easter, and more.
The Kindergarten program at St. Dominic School is marked by wonderful children, teachers, staff, parents, and community members who make up our happy, faith-filled environment. We invite you to look into becoming a part of our school family.
